Abstract

Opioid free anesthesia is a relatively new technique in the field of anesthesia. It is based on advances in the understanding of surgical pain, pharmacology of opioids, and pharmacology of non-opioids analgesics. By replacing opioids with medications that treat the protect the patients nervous system from the hyperalgesic effects of surgery, a safer anesthetic can be provided that will also provide less post-operative pain.
